Goodbye, my friends

13 Jun

In the past month, I’ve had to say “goodbye” to two very good friends of mine. Nicholas Poché, a resident director in the Student Affairs Division, and Leanne Poisson, support services assistant in the Business Affairs Division. Nick and Leanne were wonderful members of the Bryant University community. Both are genuinely nice people who believe in putting their heart and soul into everything they do.

Nick has been at Bryant for four years, and in that time, he was instrumental in establishing the LGBTQ & Allies Faculty/Staff Caucus (aka “The Caucus”). The mission of The Caucus is to cultivate and sustain a welcoming and affirming climate on campus for LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning) employees, students, and their families and visitors.

Nick is combining his love of education and travel and will be teaching English to students in countries where he is most needed. Congratulations, Nick, we will miss you!

I get sad when I think about my friends being gone...
Leanne has been at Bryant for 4 1/2 years. Anything you needed in Support Services, she would get for you with a smile. She has such a gentle, soothing way about her…even when you’re running around trying to get things done in a panic, you knew if you handed a job to Leanne that she would get it done right. And that knowledge calmed you immediately.

She is going to Villanova University in Pennsylvania to work in procurement and purchasing. She hopes to climb the ladder in the field she loves. What’s most astonishing about her move is that she knows no one in the area. Taking this job involves uprooting her life and moving away from all her family and friends. For a native Rhode Islander, this is almost unheard of, and incredibly brave! Kudos to you, Leanne, I admire your courage!

Nick and Leanne: those of us at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI, have been fortunate to have known you. And remember, you can always come back and visit!

Tina says that all she does is provide me with the computer and the time to make my magic! Best of luck, Nick! 🙂 Tupper

Goodbye and Good Luck to both Nick and Leanne. Tupper told me that he is always sad to see a friend leave Bryant but he is very happy for Nick and Leanne’s wonderful new opportunities!
